Extraordinary Measures

Inspired by an incredible true story, the CBS Films docudrama portrays one father's desperate quest to save his children from succumbing to a rare life-threatening genetic disorder. Working-class father John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) is finally on the fast track to corporate success when his two young children, Megan and Patrick, are diagnosed with Pompe disease -- a condition that prevents the body from breaking down sugar. In time, it disables the heart and the muscles, ultimately resulting in death. With the support of his wife, Aileen (Keri Russell), John ditches his career and teams with unconventional specialist Dr. Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford) to found a bio-tech company and develop a cure in time to save the lives of Megan and Patrick. As Dr. Stonehill works tirelessly to prove the theories that made him the black sheep of the medical community, a powerful bond is forged between the two unlikely allies. Still, their greatest struggle is yet to come.

Ok first off I know I do not do many movie reviews but this one, this one had speaks meaning to me. Now I do not have a sick kid who is going to died. Which I know is a blessing. How this movie spoke to me was showing how hard it is to get the research done. Having worked in labs trying to find answers over cancer I know how hard it is to get the money to do it. I went through three research jobs in two and a half years because of funding. Labs work by grants which only last usually for a year and if they are not renewed the lab looses its funds and the research for the last year cannot be continued.

The really bad part about all of this is people are impatient they want results NOW science does not work like this usually. It takes time. The only way to move it faster is to get more money AND a lot of people on it which normally doesn't happen. The sad thing I saw while in the labs was the ones with the PHds spent all there time trying to get money and not helping with research the lower degrees ( like me) did the work.

Now one thing this movie showed that someone with no education with research but had the need to find the cure if working had enough, getting money and what not can help find a cure. Unlike the scientists having a sick and dieing child is motivation to find a cure, another good movie and true story is Lorenzo's Oil.

One part in the movie which is sadly true for most cases is keeping the scientists from seeing people who have the disease they do not want to make it humanized for them. Which I never much cared for. Though Huntsman Cancer Institute for a time was different the patients and scientists had to ride the same elevator each day. I feel this was done on purpose. Give us a glimpse of whom we are trying to help. I don't feel this causes a problem, it gives you motivation!

This has now changed since they opened the new Cancer hospital, which I had the privilege of taking a tour of before it as opened. The facility is awesome I hope they are able to help many people.

So in conclusion if you ever curious on why research can take so long I definitely recommend this movie!

Utah holiday weekend

So I have changed the title of my blog a few people would find it rather funny that I actually used a particular word in it. That being sweet. Back in High School I remember getting so annoyed by what everyone wrote in my year book. The word showed up in at least 90 percent of the comments left. The phrase you are such a sweet girl, showed up over and over again. Why it bugged me so much back then I'm not sure but it did. And as one of my High School friends said I was the only person she knew that the word sweet could be used. What makes a person sweet anyways? never been able to answer that. or explain why so many people labeled me as such.

Tomorrow is July 24th and for anyone not in Utah it'd be a normal day but here its pioneer day, a day I personally do not celebrate besides getting the day off. I plan on staying in each night because one thing I am not good with is fireworks, and since they changed the laws this year and people can now do ones that shoot up in the air I think I'll just stay inside thank you.

Yes fireworks is one of my wired little fears we all have them , my hubby hates spiders and my little guy right now for some strange reason is scared of the shower head. Some of us have reasons behind our fears like for me when I was four I had a firework fall into my hair. Didn't hurt me just scared me. Now Connor he doesn't seem to like water falling on his head, why I don't know I don't think he likes water near his face. he also doesn't like messes at all. He won't play in sand doesn't like it on his feet and even when he plays outside in the pool or water he has to wear shoes. Which is definitely different from his Hawaiian roots. When we visit family they never wear shoes when playing in the yard. And he did that while we were there but he was about a year and half then and has picked up some of his own quirks since then. Though the sand one ha had even then. We took him to the beach and yes I had to sit on a beach towel the whole time with him in my lap because he wouldn't take one step in the sand. A picture of Connor with his cousins are below he is farthest to the right. And see only one with shoes!

And on a side note Connor is suddenly singing his ABCs by himself.

I think I want to change the name of this blog Rainbow kitties just doesn't fit, only problem is i do not know what would fit. I'm terrible at adding titles. I named it after my graphics journal. I had a friend help me name it because I made color bars and I love kitties. in case you do not know what a color bar is I'll add a few to this post. I still remember how to make them though I haven't made one in quiet a long time.

Little man

So my little one didn't nap today, well unless fifteen minutes in the car counts which I'm not counting. Hate days he fights his sleep he becomes extra moody and overall grumpy. Little tasks I ask of him become huge battles *sigh*. He almost always fights his naps now getting him to sit down for a few minutes is a fight and a nap? Yeah not easy. Anymore car rides is the only thing that gets him to sleep which isn't always practical. He also for a time was doing decent with potty training going and sitting on the potty all by himself without us asking. Suddenly he just won't do it anymore. I bought him underwear so he could try it on and see how they feel to motivate him. I can't even get them on him he keeps saying there to big, which in Connor speak is he's feels he's to little for them. *sigh* running out of ideas to get him going with training!

Doesn't help that right now I'm tired, sick to my stomach and dizzy right now. I've also had a ton of blonde moments at work! Can't seem to do anything right oh well :/.

Goodbyes are never easy

Yesterday at work was hard. It was the last day for one of my co-workers. One I got along with well. I'm not one to make friends easily or even allow people to get close to me. I have some pretty heavy duty shields anymore. Been hurt to many times and I'm scared to let people get to close. To many times I've been stabbed in the back or used by someone I had trusted. Her I let in more then others not all the way at all. I'm fairly certain she was a more important acquittance to me then I was to her. But that's OK her antiques made some of the more stressful moments a little better.

I remember one time she found out we were trying for a second one and stole a piece of my hair to give it to her voodoo doll, Bubba. Saying he was going to give me twins. I should probably mention she is from New Orleans, big time Catheloic and overall jockster. I joked with her that if I ended up with twins I was driving out to Cali to kick her butt. Course she joked that thing they said about voodoo was it came back on the person performing it three fold so we always joked she'd end up with 6.

Work isn't going to be the same without her you just never knew what was going to come out of her mouth :/. She made the days a little easier.

The 3rd we went to the zoo and the 4th a carnival by my mom's house Connor rode a horse :). I haven't been feeling well. Been really sick to my stomach and extra tired for the last few weeks. Fell better now but I now know what it is. Found out yesterday that I'm pregnant! So yay!

New background image for my blog. here it is before applied:

Unfortunately it cuts the shadow off a bit :/.

yay three day weekend!

Thank you for three day weekends!Been really busy a of late so hence the lack of posts. Working on two instruments at work an then switching to training at about 2 pm, I'm suppose to leave by 4 but the person i am training to take over my instrument doesn't bloody get there until well 2... he spends the rest of his time playing video games. Which yeah fine whatever but after I leave he is calling me or texting me questions about every other day! If he needs help he should get his ass to work earlier! cause I'm sick of staying around to help him :/.

Anyways that's my rant for the day the good thing is I think I get an extra hundred or so dollars because of all this stuff. Which is good because the car is up this month *sigh* the price for registration sure is going up! Now to switch to my geeky side. First off finally broke down and bought a book. I love the series by Kim Harrison and had yet to buy the newest book. Finally got myself to buy it because the books I've been reading haven't all been that great. Just got it this week and half way through :).

And one more thing found this on and this isn't normally something I'd do but I love it just wish I had extra money to get it. not sure when or how I'd ever use it just ok I like it :p.
*geeks out*

Oh! and the birds are doing great their names or Toodles and Tido. Toodles is named after this:

The little guy next to MIckey he's in Mickey Mouse clubhouse. And Tido is named after an owl from Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
